I remember starting my career and asking, “How can I get experience if no one gives me a chance to gain it?” It’s a valid question but I waited for someone to give me something when it should be the other way around. You have to take opportunities, they are not given. My tactic was to position myself as a someone with experience. I offered my services for free. I filled up my resume using websites like Volunteer Match, Craigslist, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Personal projects can be another option, however, I highly recommend working on a team. Collaborating in a tech environment is one of the most underrated skills but I believe it is required. Whether it is free or low pay, get all the experience you can get your hands on as a newcomer. Within 1-2 months, I landed my first paid salaried position with this tactic.
When your goal is to gain experience, perspective, and knowledge, failure is no longer a possibility.
